Welcome to the University of Florida J. Hillis Miller Health Center Self-Insurance Program web pages.

The UF SIP was created by the Board of Governors of the State of Florida (FBOG) to provide comprehensive general and professional liability protection for the University of Florida Board of Trustees (UFBOT) in support of the colleges of the Health Science Center at both the Gainesville and Jacksonville campuses and the UF Student Health Care Center and their employees, agents and students (see §1004.24, F.S., and Regulations of the Florida Board of Governors Regulation 10.001). UF SIP also provides Professional Liability protection to the Health Science Center’s teaching hospitals (Shands Teaching Hospital and Clinics, Inc., Shands Jacksonville Medical Center, Inc.), their not-for-profit health care affiliates and their employees and agents.

Although a unit of the Florida Board of Governors, UF SIP, operates as a component unit of the University of Florida, governed by a Council chaired by the Sr. Vice President for Health Affairs and whose members are University and Shands administrators.

The Program has offices at both campuses that are staffed by University of Florida professionals with expertise in the areas of casualty insurance, risk management, legal, medical and nursing.
